Races, Units, and Weapons

Konkrateeka Children of the Yellow sun, the short and stocky Konkrateeka believe that physical matter is the essence of the universe. Thus they reject all notions of spirituality or mysticism, regarding all those who believe there is anything beyond the material to be deluded fools. Always serious, somber some may say, they prefer to follow vocations which reflect this philosophy, and are thus usually concerned with the accumulation and management of Fuzzz (Ballerian currency) for it represents the interest in the material and practical, the real. They have a tendency to sometimes complain of the hardships of life and the inevitability of physical existence. In fact, many adopt a rather fatalistic view of life, in exact opposition to the cheerful Ealthai, whom they consider to be extremely annoying. They see them as little more than foolish children, who have not yet learned what is truly important in life.

Caravan Guard A basic Konkrateeka warrior. Useful if planning to promote Konkrateeka heroes.

Chiki-Kah Children of the Orange sun, the Chiki-Kah are a race of warriors, who above all appreciate prowess in combat. Every Chiki-Kah adult must participate, in the course of his lifetime, in at least two or three battles. For it is the only way in which a person can fulfill himself, according to their belief. They practice mostly with melee weapons, preferring to meet their opponents face-to-face, the more to prove their courage. Loyalty is important to the Chiki-Kah, as is honor, which serves as the measure of any man. Success in combat brings honor, while failure brings dishonor. And for a Chiki-Kah, dishonor is often worse than death. They consider the Nee, their hated enemies, to be untrustworthy.

Avenger The Avengers are dedicated warriors who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. Including putting themselves at risk by using their Rage skill to gain an offensive edge.

Olligar Children of the Red sun, the Olligars are the most common of all Ballerian races. They like, above all, to build - they are hard working and diligent, and serve as the world's leading builders and manufacturers of goods. Their works, though crude and lacking in aesthetic refinement, are strong and durable. Their houses, their weapons, and their armor are all of the best quality. Olligars are big and strong, and have long purple snouts, and while a single Olligar tends to be slow and passive, a nest of them, led by a hive queen, can accomplish amazing feats of engineering, and can also defend itself ferociously. They sneer at the Groguans obsession with the preservation of nature, and often come to conflict with them over patches of wild country which the Olligars wish to develop.

Builder The best city defenders in Ballerium. Builders are both excellent melee units and the premier repairers of buildings. Olligars are heavily armored, but slow.

Nee Children of the Blue sun, the Nee are natural-born leaders. Though their bodies are not particularly fitted for combat, the Nee are excellent warriors, owing among other things, to their ability to strike from a distance with deadly accuracy, and more importantly to their ability to influence (the Chiki-Kah would say manipulate) others into following them. Experts in understanding the motivations of others, and knowing how to use that understanding, some say a Nee could talk anyone into doing anything. They easily become leaders, and know when and how to "pull the strings." They consider the Chiki-Kah to be brutish warmongers.

Ealthai Children of the Purple sun, the Ealthai are a short, slender, gentle folk, who love to explore, play and learn. They believe that spirit is more important than matter, and that mind rules over body. The Ealthai are experts in manipulating and using light - they can create illusions and images with it, and can even harness its power in combat. Always optimistic, they love practical jokes, telling stories and exploring new places. When they speak, it sounds almost as if they are in fact singing, or laughing, or both - their voices are high and rolling, and they like to speak a lot, usually very fast. It is always difficult to tell whether an Ealthai is being serious or not. Of course, the Konkrateeka say that since they never say anything serious anyway, and even if they did, it would be foolish and unimportant.

Attacker Attackers are a powerful offensive unit. Even though lightly armored, they carry ranged weapons and their Pillar of Darkness is a devastating skill, useful against all organic units.

In large numbers, Attackers can be most effective. Unfortunately, if they come up against a larger force of melee units during anything except their favorable sun, odds are they won't hold up for long. Keep them healed and casting Pillar of Darkness and your foes will fall quick.

Groguan Children of the Green sun, the Groguans like to think of themselves as being one with nature. They believe that all races should live in harmony with the nature around them, and that plant and animal life should be respected, sometimes even worshipped. That is why they have developed a dislike of the Olligars - the Olligars build all the time, changing and manipulating nature. They see the Olligars with their zeal for industry as defilers of the land, and themselves as its defenders nature's champions. The Groguans believe that all things are linked to each other, and that together these links create nature, which is everything.

Caller The Caller, other than being a decent choice for a ranged-attack unit, can also use his Storm Cloud skill to damage and slow down enemies, thus nearly disabling them while continuing to shoot at them.

Caravans Trader Caravans are the lifeblood of Ballerium. They labor intensely within the mines, collecting valuable resources. They transport supplies to and from cities. They enable Avatars to trade cash and resources. And, they are neccessary for hoarding wartime supplies for upcoming battles. An Avatar without Caravans, is an Avatar doomed to a slow death as richer and stronger Avatars chip away at their holdings.

Small Dolom All Avatars begin their experience in Ballerium with one small Dolom. Use it to begin mining operations as soon as you check out your surroundings. These caravans are fast and nimble. Unfortunately, they can't carry many resources and have low lifepower.

I tend to upgrade to medium Doloms as soon as feasible. Small Doloms come in handy when funds are low or you need fast caravans to keep up with your forces.

Dolom The mainstay of the caravan units. You'll see many of these trading around Ballerium's cities. They carry a decent amount of resources, have good defenses/lifepower, and can keep up with all but the fastest army.

As soon as you have the funds available to get medium Doloms, I recommend you do. They'll pay you back with the extra resources they can carry. I like to use these caravans because they don't cost me any extra resources to build, unlike the large Doloms. This way I can kill them off when I need to muster a large army, and rebuy them at minimal expense when the battle is over.

Large Dolom This is a tanker of a caravan. It holds enormous amounts of resources. The large Dolom is extremely slow, but well armored with lots of lifepower. A few of these mining will feed even the most devastated city enough resources to grow at an astonishing rate.

When I need thousands of units of resources to rebuild a destroyed city, the large Dolom is the only way to go. But, since they cost rare resources to produce, I tend to only use them when I know I won't need the slots anytime soon for my army. Large Doloms are great for storing your stash of rare resources in a Sanctuary. I start out with one in the first week of a round and work my way up to as many as four or more.

Nubis A fast, aerial caravan, that can fly over water and is extremely well armored. Making this unit well suited for transporting small amounts of resources, and also very well adept as a cheap scout. It's main drawbacks are its low lifepower and small carrying capacity.

Buying a Nubis soon after you enter Ballerium is a good idea. You can use it to scout for the best mines, transport your resources for sale to a city, thereby keeping your Doloms mining. I also use it to initially store my collected rare resources, until I have enough rares to store in a large Dolom. Since I never let my large Dolom stray too far from a Sanctuary, less he gets killed and I lose all my hard earned rares, I use the Nubis to shuttle resources to and from the large Dolom.

Aerials You don't see too many aerial units in Ballerium. Because of this, most Avatars are unprepared when they run across a large squad of Cruisers. In small numbers, they are only good at scouting. But, in medium or large groups, they can really cause some mayhem for an Avatar that has 99% ground attack forces in their army. When on the assualt, keep in mind you might come up against a dozen or more of these flying units.

Light Cruiser A fast and agile flying machine, used for quick strikes behind enemy lines, scouting missions and as excorts for heavier flying units.

Artillery A couple of my favorite units, artillery are. I just love laying seige to the cities of Ballerium. Early in the round, they might not be too neccessary. But, as cities become upgraded, and towers become more dangerous, artillery are indispensable in breaking the defenses of the city. Make sure to have units nearby that can fix any damage done to your artillery, they tend to be slow and weak.

Catapult A catapult able to sling charges of burning acid at long range. It can be effective when laying seige to cities and when attacking clusters of enemy troops.

Catapults do amazing damage to organic units. With their large attack radius, a group of catapults can lay waste to a whole army in a matter of seconds. Against buildings or mechs, they aren't as effective. Keep them safe, with low lifepower, they are easily damaged.

Engines These tank like units really deal out the damage. They can take it as good as they give it too, extremely well armored. War engine have many uses, from defending mines, attacking rifts, to protecting cities. You better have a good plan if you come up against a few of these.

Light WarEngine A highly mobil war engine, capable of striking hard with its arrow-like projectiles, while at the same time being well defended.

This unit makes a good compliment to any army. It has longer range, is faster, but has less defenses than the full WarEngine. It's also less expensive, you might be able to afford a few more of these to make up for the weaker armor.

Builders Certain structures in Ballerium require another unit in order to build them. This is where Builders come into play. You purchase the Builder unit, move it to the location you want the structure, and then order the Builder to construct it. These units have no attack abilities.

Mine Builder An Olligar worker specializing in the construction of mines. Considering this isn't a military unit, it has low defense, low lifepoints, and no weapon.

Every Avatar starts out in Ballerium with one of these units. You have him so you can start mining right away. These units are handy if you are in need of a quick mine far away from your normal base of operations, considering they are sold at every city. More Units Coming Soon As time permits, I'll add more units to this page, please be patient.

WeaponsHeroes and organic units can purchase upgraded weapons at the Smithium. Just select the unit you wish to equip and right-click on the Smithium. A hero can browse all the weapons, they can equip any weapon available. Normal units can only upgrade their current weapon. Each weapon comes in four levels, base, +1, +2, +3. The higher the level, the greater the cost in MFU and resources. And of course, the better the weapon stats will be.

If a weapon shows as unavailable, it's probably because you either don't have enough money, or the city is out of the required resource to build it. Click the small, right-most arrow at the bottom right of the Smithium interface. The display will change to show the needed resources. Sell more of that resource to the Marketplace if that's the problem.

Units and structures in Ballerium each are made with different types of armor. To combat this armor, there are four types of weapons - piercing, slashing, bludgeoning, and energy. Each one of these damage types works best against a certain type of armor. Armor research is sketchy at the moment, but what we do know is, bludgeoning weapons work best against mechanical units, buildings, and rifts. We believe that is because they are constructed out of constrix based armor.

Most stats are easy to understand, except for attack speed. Just so you know, the higher the speed of a weapon, the slower a unit will use it. Think of it as the weight of the weapon, the higher the speed, the heavier the weapon, the slower it can be put to use.

Battleaxe A large, simple axe. Sometimes built with a constrix handle. Crude, but effective.

Nice damage, medium attack speed, what's not to like. It just looks good too.

Great Harpooner An improved version of the Harpooner, made with Gummix components for increased thrust.

Currently, my favorite weapon for all my support type heroes. The range is phenomenal, allowing my heroes to stay away from the fight while casting offensive and defensive skills. I don't mind the slow fire rate because the hero's skills do most of the damage.

Adamantium WeaponsThese are a special class of weapons, only available to heroes. Because of the added strength and weight of adamantium, only heroes are strong enough to wield their power. Unless adamantium is available at the Marketplace, you probably will have to mine your own adamantium, and sell it at whatever city you wish to purchase these weapons. For a melee orientated hero, these weapons are an excellent choice.
